Buckie test centre on the Moray coast in north-east Scotland covers a small fishing town where routes include the narrow High Street, the A942 coastal road, residential streets in Portessie and Findochty, and single-track lanes heading inland towards Keith.
Portessie and Findochty
Residential streets in neighbouring villages with parked cars, tight junctions and 20 mph zones. Use the MSPSL routine at every junction and check your mirrors before any change of speed or direction. Watch for pedestrian crossings and keep your speed-limit awareness sharp.
The A942 coastal road
A fast single carriageway linking coastal villages. The examiner tests your speed management on open stretches and your approach to blind bends. Maintain a safe following distance using the two-second rule and use our roundabout guide for multi-lane exits.
The High Street
A narrow main street with delivery vehicles, pedestrian crossings and angled parking bays. If you encounter a dual carriageway stretch, build speed confidently and stay left unless overtaking.
Inland lanes towards Keith
Single-track roads with passing places, farm traffic and steep gradients through the Moray countryside. These roads require confident country-road driving skills and a secure hill start on gradients.
Independent driving
The independent driving section lasts around ten minutes. Read the road ahead while following the sat nav — a wrong turn is not penalised.
