Brislington test centre in south Bristol covers routes through residential Knowle and Totterdown, the busy A4 Bath Road, the A37 Wells Road corridor, and lanes towards Keynsham and Whitchurch.
Knowle and Totterdown
Terraced streets with heavy on-street parking, steep hills and mini-roundabouts in quick succession. Use the MSPSL routine at every junction and check your mirrors before any change of speed or direction. Watch for pedestrian crossings and keep your speed-limit awareness sharp.
The A4 Bath Road
A busy dual carriageway corridor with bus lanes, traffic lights and the Brislington Park and Ride roundabout. Maintain a safe following distance using the two-second rule and use our roundabout guide for multi-lane exits.
The A37 Wells Road
A fast corridor climbing south with 30-40 mph sections, pedestrian crossings near shops and junctions feeding residential side roads. If you encounter a dual carriageway stretch, build speed confidently and stay left unless overtaking.
Keynsham and Whitchurch lanes
Country lanes with blind bends, narrow bridges and gradients south-east of the centre. These roads require confident country-road driving skills and a secure hill start on gradients.
Independent driving
The independent driving section lasts around ten minutes. Read the road ahead while following the sat nav — a wrong turn is not penalised.
