Bridlington test centre on the East Yorkshire coast takes you through the seaside town centre, the A165 and A614 corridors, residential streets in Bessingby and Hilderthorpe, and exposed coastal roads towards Flamborough Head.
Bessingby and Hilderthorpe
Residential streets with on-street parking, T-junctions and mini-roundabouts requiring constant mirror checks. Use the MSPSL routine at every junction and check your mirrors before any change of speed or direction. Watch for pedestrian crossings and keep your speed-limit awareness sharp.
The A165 and A614
Fast single carriageways linking Bridlington to Scarborough and Driffield. The examiner tests speed management and overtaking decisions. Maintain a safe following distance using the two-second rule and use our roundabout guide for multi-lane exits.
The seafront
A wide road with angled parking, pedestrian crossings and seasonal tourist traffic. If you encounter a dual carriageway stretch, build speed confidently and stay left unless overtaking.
Flamborough Head roads
Exposed coastal lanes with crosswinds, blind bends and occasional farm vehicles. These roads require confident country-road driving skills and a secure hill start on gradients.
Independent driving
The independent driving section lasts around ten minutes. Read the road ahead while following the sat nav — a wrong turn is not penalised.
